Would a marketing degree be acceptable in architectural design?
I know this is an odd question BUT…
Can someone who has a marketing or business degree, enter a graduate architectural design program at a university, let’s say, Auburn? Where they could do marketing & design in an architectural firm? Is that even possible? Or would one need to have some other type of degree, if so, what would be more beneficial?
It’s just that the main concern is, if a different degree is needed, then 2 or 3 years of undergraduate courses would be required, I am pretty positive.

It is sort of stupid but in most fields what you took as an undergrad does not need to have anything to do with your masters degree. My daughter has a dual BA in economics and political science and is getting a dual MS in Technology Management (Transportation) and Safety.
And in doing her undergrad thesis got a certification as an Emergency Medical technician.

I may be interested in architectural design, but I have a few questions. First of all, I have a few years left of high school to prepare for this career, but what should I do? Should I draw architecture and learn about how it changes? Anything with math? And what does an architectural planner do? Are there jobs in this field that don’t involve math, and if so, what are they? What are some things I may encounter? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
It’s good that you’re thinking ahead of time. You could always improve your drawing skills (being able to draw better is so important as it helps you represent your ideas/concept more easily), learn how to use some CAD softwares (Photoshop, AutoCad, etc. – they usually rush through when they teach these and many students find themselves struggling to cope), take some hobby class on model-making (I felt so disadvantaged with this cuz they usually give you limited time and a do-over means not finishing the project.. so many of my models turned out like crap, lol).
About Maths, it isn’t one of my strengths either. You do need a basic understanding (using & converting different units, area) nothing complex like calculus. You can use a calculator, so I wouldn’t worry about the math part. It does involve a bit of geography too.
Architectural planning is more like problem solving – you are given a particular space, your client wants certain things, theres a budget – you got to come up with a concept that fits in with all those limitations.
What you’d encounter.. many things, I’ll give you two. The first is that it’s all team work, you’ll be working with so many others and so you need to learn how to get along, allocate work, all that. The second is you need to realize that the field is challenging and so it’s important to have good time management skills. Many students underestimate the time needed to complete a project and they’ll be up for nights (living on 2 hours of sleep, some don’t even get that) to meet a deadline – that’s terrible, it’s frustrating at times and makes you depressed, makes you want to give it up, but as long as you don’t procrastinate, you’ll be fine.
